Description of Products for Trade Inquiry
KAWARA SENBEI, loved in Kobe for 150 years, is made from the same ingredients as Castella: eggs, flour, and sugar. It is shaped to resemble a kawara tile, which has been used on the roofs of houses since ancient times in Japan, and features various patterns that can be branded on the surface. Because it is made with simple ingredients, this confectionary is not bound by cultural borders and brings smiles to people's faces.

KAWARA SENBEI

BUTTER SANDWICH

Kameido's head store at that time
At the time of the opening of the port of Kobe, Japan had just broken its isolationist policy and imported flour and sugar from overseas. Eggs, which were a luxury item at the time, were also imported from Japan. Butter was unfamiliar to the Japanese of the Meiji era, and it took 40 years for them to accept Western-style confections. Therefore, "KAWARASENBEI" became the foundation for the change of Japanese food culture from Japanese to Western.
